Since the mid-’80s, Thomas & Friends has been welcoming generations of kids onto the mythical island of Sodor to follow the adventures of the titular talking locomotive. But while the series presents a quaint, pastoral image of England—a quality enhanced by the jolly music-hall bounce of the original “Thomas Theme”—the franchise has kept up with the times by modernising its musical accompaniment.
