Portuguese rap is by nature cosmopolitan, and the Barreiro-born Jimmy P. is no exception, carrying on the line of smooth MCs trying to fit the world into their songs. Born Joel Plácido and raised in Paris by Angolan parents, P.'s music bursts with righteous politics and irrepressible joy. On "O Que Vai Ser", off #1, his 2013 debut, he rhymes "Ghana" with "Copacabana" over a beat that combines cool horns and breezy acoustic guitar. "Entre as Estrelas", meanwhile, is a ballad in the vein of "See You Again", a light arrangement giving his unhurried flow plenty of room to amble.
