Swervedriver reliably rocked louder and harder than most of their shoegazing peers. The band went straight for the gut, matching huge guitars with unrepentant drums and singer Adam Franklin's soaring, tender-but-tough vocals. Early albums Raise and Mezcal Head are packed with straight-ahead rock 'n' roll songs—forged as much in the alternative aesthetics of the ‘90s as the classic guitar sounds of ‘70s American radio. After a lengthy hiatus, the band returned to the studio for 2015's I Wasn't Born to Lose You.
