The working-class punk aesthetic The Clash invented in the late ’70s and early ’80s carried over to Joe Strummer’s solo videography. The guy was no fan of slick and flashy camerawork. Rather, Strummer preferred no-frills performance footage and grainy street scenes that helped bring to life the proletarian politics embedded in the poetic mix of British rock, reggae, and barroom Americana that he created in the years following The Clash’s breakup.
