Malaysian actor Michelle Yeoh may be a globe-trotting star who has featured in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Crazy Rich Asians, and Star Trek: Discovery, but she’s never forgotten the importance of tradition and family during Lunar New Year. “The most precious memory [of Lunar New Year] is being with my dad, mum, my family and friends in Ipoh,” she tells Apple Music. "We love eating; we always have a table full of food and party all through the new year. In Malaysia, Chinese families keep a lot of traditions. My family must dress in red and present tea to parents, first thing in the morning. No sweeping floors, no bad moods, always smiling and happy!” Yeoh has selected the 1985 charity single “We Are the World,” written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie, as her personal theme for 2020. “I hope we all can go hand in hand to save our planet and make a better and peaceful future for our next generations.” Her playlist also features plenty of old classics and throwback pop hits. “My family loves singing, especially my mum, so most of these songs are her favorite karaoke songs! Every time I listen to them, it brings a lot of beautiful memories. I have been traveling and working abroad for the last few years, but the memories of celebrating Lunar New Year with my family never fade.” Along with her playlist, she also shares a Star Trek-themed blessing for the New Year: “Live long, healthy, and prosper! I am Emperor Philippa Georgiou.”
