Born and raised in Manchester, Jamaica, Lila Iké is an artist with a deep love and understanding of the island’s musical traditions. She made that perfectly clear with the lovers-rock lilt she brought to 2018’s “In Bloom”, her hit duet with Protoje. Yet, as she’s shown ever since she started releasing her own music in the mid-2010s and on further collaborations with stars like Jah9, Iké puts her own contemporary stamp on the reggae, dub and dancehall sounds she knows so well. On “Where I’m Coming From” and “I Spy”, Iké’s warm, sweet voice rides the easy rhythms and rich textures that are steeped in ‘90s neo-soul and hip-hop, too.
