Ahead of the Mexican counterculture movement of the late ‘60s, Los Teen Tops borrowed both the hairdos and devil-may-care sound of American rock ‘n' roll. Taking cues from Elvis and Little Richard, they refashioned the bopping, high-energy genre for a Spanish-speaking fanbase. Playing surf-infused originals and covers alike, such as the spunky “La Plaga (Good Golly, Miss Molly)” and the Jerry Lee Lewis-leaning “Popotitos,” the group had fans twisting the night away just like their heroes to the north.
