Compton-born Steve Lacy began playing guitar when he was in high school, and his musical career fully flowered when he joined the funk-vibe collective The Internet in 2013, playing guitar and producing some songs for their GRAMMYⓇ-nominated album Ego Death, released in 2015. In his solo work and on his collaborations with the likes of Vampire Weekend and Kali Uchis, Lacy updates the funk ideals sketched out by Sly & the Family Stone and Prince for the laptop-studio age, blending a bedroom-pop vibe with sumptuous grooves and flinty riffs.
