December Avenue’s name is an instructive one. According to frontman Zel Bautista, it was chosen because the final month of the year evokes the same kind of emotions as the band do in their songs. Deploying an emo style akin to Dashboard Confessional, the quintet’s songs are romantic exercises in reflection and introspection that look forward with the kind of hopefulness that a new year brings. With their passions writ large on “Bulong” and “Eroplanong Papel”, it’s easy to hear why the band has racked up hundreds of millions of streams.
