Taiwan's 929 lead with a disarmingly breezy sound—a pleasant intersection of acoustic guitar and light hand percussion that calls to mind the easy melodies of Kings Of Convenience. But these gentle arrangements frame politically charged lyrics through which the band zeroes in on subjects like human rights abuses and environmental destruction. Their songs may come in a pretty package, but 929's charming folk rock illuminates some very serious issues.
