If you prefer your metal to be the embodiment of pure evil, dive headlong into the wicked hellfire of Norway's Gorgoroth. Masterminded since 1992 by guitarist and occasional bassist/drummer/vocalist Infernus, they are the epitome of black metal in opposition to Christianity. Their lyrics are kept secret but the titles set their agenda: “Human Sacrifice,” “Possessed (By Satan),” “The Devil Is Calling.” Yet there's nothing rote about their frequently dense and brittle sound. And for better or worse, their criminal records suggest they practice what they preach.
