i painted my face,

laced up my boots,

and followed my curiosity

into the trees

the flickering light on the front porch faded

the deeper i went into the dark,

i couldn't see

two feet in front of me

I wandered off looking for myself & and got lost

in curiosity

& all my empathy for you

the truth shook me loose

I was cold to the touch
