Reflections on dark water, like the shadow of a dream.
Glimpse just for an instant and vanish in the stream.
Memories flutter like frightened birds,
Startled from the trees,
And disappear into the darkness between the leaves.
Discarded words, forgotten songs, and letters left unsent.
Futures past that could never last, that were borrowed, lost or sent.
Now I hear distant tickles of things I once believed.
And slipped into the darkness between the leaves.
All you have is the road you took and who you met along the
Way, and the chance to open your eyes and look at who you are today.
And see all the different strands of life,
And the tapestry it weaves,
And the dappled shadows in the darkness between the leaves.
So I let the the evening fool around me,
And if that's what I've received,
And I hope that there is something
Somewhere to give strength to those who grieve.
For every Day must turn to Night,
And every thing that breathes,
Must one day pass into the darkness between the leaves.
