There are no more guns in the valley

the water has gotten cold

still is the handle and the bell

and the conscience in the old

low beyond the reverence

what was brought can not be sold

for the sun will rise on the cold water

it'll fill in all the holes

the children walked here without shoes

the time of awe and strife and ten have all faded from their views

and the lasting ways that once were law are rewrote and sung anew

though some would argue with that truth

and blame it all on different folks

that might have been troubled in their youth

for there are none who should aspire so as to be higher

than the truth

or to the lender
