Danny Dill began his career in 1943 as a country comedian with red wig and blacked out teeth. In 1944, he relocated to Nashville with his wife. They worked, as Annie Lou And Danny - The Sweethearts of the Grand Ole Opry, on various package shows and toured with Hank Williams and Eddy Arnold. After his 1952 divorce from Annie Lou, Dill joined Ernest Tubb as rhythm guitarist and wrote the country hit, "Partners," for Jim Reeves. In 1959, he wrote the lyrics to the country standard, "The Long Black Veil," and, during the '60s, he wrote or co-wrote many major hits, including Faron Young's "The Comeback" and "Old Courthouse," and Bobby Bare's "Detroit City." He ultimately reunited with Annie Lou on a Grand Ole Opry Reunion show.
