Human Sexual Response was a pioneering new wave band that matched dramatic, jagged, yet party-fueled music with Warholian performance art-informed stage antics. Originally an acapella county band called Honey Bea and the Meadow Muffins, the Boston-based ensemble eventually switched to a more conventional rock band format. The group came to national attention in 1978 after releasing the hit single “Jackie Onassis,” which eventually led to full-length release on Eat Records (owned by Don Roze, who later co-founded Rykodisc). Human Sexual Response split in 1982, though several members went on to other projects, most notably drummer Malcolm Travis, who joined Bob Mould’s post-Husker Du band Sugar.
