Prolific Scottish musician John McCusker studied violin from the age of seven, at the age of 14, he formed a folk band with fellow Royal Academy students, named Parcel O’Rogues. When Brian McNeill left the Battlefield Band, McCusker was invited to become his replacement. Still only a 16-year-old, he made his debut with the band at Glasgow’s George Square, touring and recording with them over the next 11 years, while working extensively as a session musician and appearing on albums by the BMX Bandits, Teenage Fanclub, Kathryn Roberts, and his future-wife, Kate Rusby. He released his self-titled debut album in 1995, and after leaving the Battlefield Band, McCusker returned to the studio for the superb GOODNIGHT GINGER, in 2003, before collaborating with Rusby on the soundtrack of Damian O’Donnell’s movie HEARTLANDS.
