Before taking the Canadian country scene by storm, Toronto native Justin Tyler started out as a drummer in rock bands. But when his high school band appeared on a TV talent competition, he discovered his love of the spotlight and decided to become a singer. In 2011, he started posting his performances on social media, developing a huge online fanbase. At first he focused on covers of tunes by artists such as Alyssa Reid and Ed Sheeran, but eventually he grew into a songwriter and found his feet as a recording artist. Taking inspiration from country-pop kings like Thomas Rhett and Sam Hunt, Tyler incorporated his larger-than-life personality and passionate vocal style into songs full of unfettered emotion and up-to-the-minute production. He released his first single, appropriately titled “First Time,” in 2018, and the tender love song earned attention far beyond the social-media sphere, as did singles like 2019’s anthemic, celebratory “Raise Your Cups” and 2020’s cinematic love cry “Better with You.”
