In 1962, Lloyd Tyrell teamed up with Roy Willis to form the Charmers, a vocal duo who scored their biggest hit with "Time After Time," produced by Prince Buster. By the late-'60s, the partnership dissolved, and the renamed Lloyd Charmers swiftly formed the Uniques with Slim Smith and Jimmy Riley, scoring an instant hit with "Watch This Sound," followed by the classic "My Conversation" in 1969. He also released work using his real name, notably the risqué "Bang Bang Lulu" and "Birth Control." It was as a producer that Charmers enjoyed his biggest commercial success, climaxing in Ken Boothe's Brit hit version of Bread's "Everything I Own."
