Mercurio were formed in the mid-'90s in Puebla, Mexico, and became one of the country's most popular young singing and dancing groups soon after the arrival of their first album, Mercurio (Para Ti), in 1995. The boy band opened for Ricky Martin at Guadalajara's Plaza de Toros and performed with Jeans and Kairo at Mexico City's Auditorio Nacional. "Como Decirle Que la Quiero" was Mercurio's first hit single and video. As their popularity grew, Mercurio traveled to Colombia and later to the Vatican to meet Pope John Paul II. Chicas Chic was released in 1997, followed by 1998's Es Tiempo de Vivir and the 1999 compilation El Fenómeno. In March 2000, Mercurio toured Central America as their record Evolución achieved gold status in Mexico. ~ Drago Bonacich
