Natural Information Society is an improvisational ensemble assembled by avant-garde jazz gimbri player, bassist, and composer Joshua Abrams, a veteran of Chicago's experimental music scene. The group's hypnotic sound emerges from a lineup that evolves live and in studio. Their sonic trademark fuses elements of minimalist classical, Krautrock, drone, free jazz, world musics, folk, and other styles. They've collaborated with dozens of musicians of various stripes from around the globe, and have recorded for Eremite and Drag City. Their fourth album Descension (Out of Our Constrictions) was recorded during a 2019 live performance at London's Cafe OTO with prolific British saxophonist Evan Parker. 2023's Since Time Is Gravity was recorded live-to-tape by an expanded lineup that featured Chicago saxophone icon Ari Brown, and in 2025 they teamed up with synth trio Bitchin Bajas for Totality, their second collaborative LP. ~ Thom Jurek
