Singer and producer Victor Internet resists the term “bedroom pop.” The first-generation Mexican American artist cultivated a lo-fi pop and R&B sound out of necessity, not choice, and he’s always been interested in commercial success.
• Raised on the South Side of Chicago, Victor started writing poetry at age 12 and later penned music for his youth group. He also studied voice at the Chicago High School of the Arts.
• He started producing music in 2017 after borrowing an old computer and a microphone from a friend.
• His initial stage name was Victor!—but people had trouble finding him online, so he added “Internet” because he’s always loved computers.
• Victor explores themes of queerness on his 2017 single “Tinder.” The song struck a chord with LGBTQ listeners and has racked up tens of millions of streams.
• His aptly titled debut album, Victor’s Debut, arrived in 2019.
