Crown Lands’ bluesy, cosmic, prog-leaning rock travels brazenly through space and time, but the power duo’s socio-political polemics hit boldly on the here and now. Multi-instrumentalist Kevin Comeau and singer/drummer Cody Bowles first started jamming together in 2015 in Ontario. While their 2020 self-titled debut album flirts with the earth-shaking, bellow-laden grooves of Led Zeppelin, later releases—including the menacing Sabbath stomp of “White Buffalo” and the grandiose multi-part suites of 2023’s Fearless—proved the duo rightful successors to their heroes Rush. They bring that same tenacity to their lyrics, which stand up for Indigenous rights in Canada—a reflection of Bowles’ Mi'kmaq heritage and the inspiration for the band’s name.
