Danish artist Mads Langer gives pop-rock a refreshing twist with each new album. His 2013 effort In These Waters contains moments full of charm like the chiming “Elephant” and “Heartquake”, a horn-inflected ode to his love interest. More recent releases include flirtations with guitar-tinged dance-pop, misty deep house and rhythmic ukulele folk sung in both English and Danish. Yet some of Langer’s lower-key moments are also his most compelling: stripped-back piano ballad “Afterglow”—a collab with soulful singer Coco O.—shines bright in his catalogue.
