With his hard-hitting beats and rhymes, Quebec’s Mindflip performs like someone who has no time to waste, a quality he shares with so many of the old-school hip-hop giants who’ve inspired him. But while the MC’s lean aesthetic demonstrates the influence of East Coast icons like Nas, The Notorious B.I.G., and Mobb Deep, his loosest moments see him draw just as much from 50 Cent’s club bangers and Snoop Dogg’s G-funk, along with such underappreciated greats as Afu-Ra.
