Steve Goodman, better known as Kode9, is an incredibly influential figure in the British electronic scene. Aside from founding the Hyperdub label in 2004—home for Burial and other dubstep pioneers—the Scottish artist has been a force in UK clubs since the 1990s and a staple of the breakbeat, jungle and drum ’n’ bass scenes. His productions, such as “9 Samurai” and “Kingstown”, reflect diverse influences with skittering, dub reggae-style beats and dark, bass-driven atmospheres. They’ve helped establish a sound that’s become a trademark of bass music, inspiring like-minded artists worldwide.
