His lush yet delicate singing has earned comparisons to Luther Vandross, while his work draws from R&B, reggae, and traditional Tongan music. Delivered in a mix of English and Tongan, his self-produced 2023 single “’Ouana” pairs timeless guitar twang with chill programmed beats, while the same year’s “Why Worry” slows down even more to evoke the ambience of an island sunset as Tatofi reassures the song’s subject not to sweat the daily difficulties of life. And though he’s best known for his originals, Tatofi does beautiful and varied work with covers too: his 2023 version of Johnny Nash’s ballad “Tears on My Pillow” preserves the source material’s unabashed romantic pining, while his 2022 take on Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide” adds head-nodding reggae licks against the deep radiance of his voice.
