Doug Paisley's autumnal indie folk is akin to the wilderness in his home country of Canada—sometimes it sounds as intimate and warm as a summer night on a lake (“Drinking with a Friend”), sometimes as vast as Ontario's rolling farmland (“What I Saw”). He emerged in the late ‘00s, but his lengthy career also includes performing as one part of a Stanley Brothers tribute act for around a decade. This persistence saw him arrive as a headliner fully formed, with an earthy timbre that suits his easygoing melodies. “O Heart” is Paisley at his best: a loose, piano-sprinkled sway of romantic Americana.
