Like many other old-school punk bands, T.S.O.L. disliked being pigeonholed. On their 1981 self-titled debut EP, the Californian band tore through churning hardcore full of pointed political commentary, epitomised on “Abolish Government / Silent Majority”. Later that same year, on the full-length Dance With Me, the group branched out into horror punk (“Code Blue”) and theatrical gothic rock (the title track). T.S.O.L. would embrace the latter sound heavily as the decade progressed, culminating in dark alternative classics such as 1986’s “Nothin’ for You”.
