Nükhet Duru’s influence is pervasive in both contemporary Turkish pop culture and globally. Getting her start singing at an Istanbul club in the early ’70s, Duru released her first LP "Bir Nefes Gibi"ler 1976. She has since built a substantial, indispensable oeuvre with her passionate, golden-throated vocals—be it pop, jazz-inflected numbers or more traditional songs (which she began performing in the ’80s). More recently, duets with the likes of latter-day stars Mabel Matiz and Sıla on 2020’s Hikayesi Var show the true depth of her lasting imprint on Turkish music.
