Composer and vibes player Roy Ayers was one of the first jazz men to incorporate R&B, funk, and disco elements into his music, making him one of the godfathers of smooth jazz. Ayers' soulful grooves, use of vocalists, and virtuosic vibraphone work have all been hugely influential on everything from jazz to hip-hop and house music.
