South Korean vocalist Youn Sun Nah began to study jazz after exploring classical and rock styles in her youth. But on her output for Warner Music and the ACT label, you can hear that she took to her studies like a natural. She performs her own compositions with poise—but also blends all of her influences with aplomb, delivering richly imaginative interpretations of pop songs, as when she swings on melodies by the likes of Tom Waits and Metallica.
