Composer/producer Cap Kendricks paints spine-tingling urban portraits with sound. Since the mid-’10s, his fluent instrumentals have surfed the chillest corners of hip-hop, melding swaggering boom-bap with jazzy keys and soulful horns, occasionally nodding to the music of West Africa. But the Munich artist wanders even further than that. In his 2020 album Planet B, he leaves behind the cityscapes that inspired previous releases and reaches for the stars, concocting a “Saturnian Potion” of glimmering lo-fi beats and intergalactic effects that transports listeners through space and time.
