Since emerging in the mid-'90s, English pianist Paul Lewis has maintained a spirited mastery of the standard repertoire, but he’s known best for his devotion to the key works of the Classical period (roughly 1730-1820). He’s rigorously immersed himself in the solo works of Beethoven, Schubert, and Haydn, bringing an almost scholarly discipline to his authoritative interpretations. Lewis has also established himself as a committed orchestral performer, playing alongside some of the world’s finest symphonies, but it’s in his solo practice where the plush warmth of his tone and the dynamic delicacy of his touch shine most brilliantly.
