The guitar tones reach a purity of tone that only a lifelong master can deliver. And then the vocals come drifting through. Ann Peebles’ “I Can’t Stand the Rain” is a worthy tribute to the impeccable classic. Originals such as “You Give Me All I Need,” “Early Morning Riser” and “All Night Long” remind one of the latter-day successes of Arthur Alexander, Solomon Burke and Bettye LaVette, where the band and singer come together with a deep understanding and appreciation for where the music has taken them in the past and where it can go with a little love and affection for its purest tones.
