Morgan Wade
The Party Is Over (recovered)
Album · Country · 2025
Like its predecessor, Morgan Wade’s fifth album is an intensely personal affair. The Virginia-born country singer-songwriter wrote all 11 tracks on The Party Is Over (recovered) by herself, something she first did on 2024’s Obsessed, and the resulting album is a compelling listen. Produced by longtime collaborator and band member Clint Wells, The Party Is Over (recovered) opens with its title track, which, despite its thematic connections to newer material on the LP, Wade wrote years earlier—“recovering” it from her vault of unreleased material, as the album title suggests. That tune is sweeping and anthemic, as Wade painfully considers feelings of love that last well beyond a relationship’s expiration date. “East Coast” is similarly wrenching, though it dips into Wade’s darker side as she imagines drowning herself to get the attention of an ex-flame. It’s not all down and out, though, like on “Parking Garage” when Wade finds comfort in another broken heart, and the bright and sweet “Stay,” in which she hopes to become a better person for “the one.” Wade closes the album with the vivid and emotional ballad “Hardwood Floor,” which tells of a woman struggling to become pregnant.
