God Save the King
Album · Hip-Hop/Rap · 2012
Hailing from Columbus, Ohio, Copywrite first appeared with his crew MegaHertz, which debuted on the Fondle 'Em single "World Premier." Throughout the '00s, Copywrite dropped two albums (The High Exhaulted and The Life and Times of Peter Nelson), one EP, collabos with The Weathermen, and several quality mixtapes. Though his status has dipped some over the years, he's stayed on the fringes of the underground and earned notoriety thanks to verbal beefs with fellow rappers Cage and Asher Roth. On God Save the King, he looks to re-establish himself with a lengthy album that focuses on his love for hip-hop, hate for wack emcees, and perseverance in the industry. His wordy, punchline-infused rhyme style still sounds sharp 14 years after his debut, and the strong guest list (Mac Lethal, Torae, Roc Marciano, Casual, plus Mhz homies Tage Future and Jakki Da Motormouth) serves him well. The production is solid, especially on "Blue Ribbon," "Got to Make It," "Miracle," and "Golden State (Of Mind)."
