Biografia wykonawcy
The Fabulous Performers were actually the same singers as the Informers, a Philadelphia soul group that put out two mid-'60s singles on the small J-Rude label. The Informers were put on hold in mid-1967 when two of the members were drafted. When they re-formed after those two got out of the Army a couple of years later in 1969, they changed their name to the Fabulous Performers, after being told another group was using the name the Informers. The Fabulous Performers then put out a couple of fair singles on the Blackjack label, updating their Informers sound with slicker production, and maintaining their facility with both ballads and dance tunes. The Fabulous Performers didn't have enough personality or good enough songs to merit stardom, but the singles are solid period '60s Philly soul, the Temptations influence coming to the fore on the socially conscious lyrics and funk wah-wah guitar of "Think About It."
The Fabulous Performers broke up after a serious car accident in the summer of 1971. Both sides of the two Fabulous Performers singles on Blackjack were reissued on the compilation The Sounds of North Philly, along with four previously unreleased songs. That disc also includes both sides of the two Informers singles on J-Rude, two sides of an early unreleased Informers acetate, and ten songs by an unrelated '60s Philadelphia soul group, the Royal Five. ~ Richie Unterberger
