Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. Driving through the Karoo, from Johannesburg to Cape Town, listening to Leonard Cohen. This was a nigh-time drive, we still had far to go, but the female backing vocals on "Take this longing" captured the feeling of the desert landscape perfectly.
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Koos Kombuis, Niemandsland Leonard Cohen, Songs of Love and Hate Radiohead, OK Computer Leonard Cohen's darkest album - I think "Famous Blue Raincoat" is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. Niemandsland for brilliant song writing and superb arrangements by the late James Phillips. OK Computer for "Exit music for a film".

Tell us why you chose this song. “Dis Net Werk Toe Wat Ek Nog Deur Hillbrow Ry (Remix 2024)” I wrote this song for a Johannes Kerkorrel tribute concert. He was a trailblazing Afrikaans musician who died too early. The song talks about my generation, those who found a sense of identify in the movement he represented. Some stay, some leave.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Rock concerts with my band Brixton Moord en Roof Orkes. But also small, solo gigs that combine poetry with music. A highlight was touring the Netherlands with novelists Ingrid Winterbach, Willem Anker and others, and performing at book discussions.
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? Combining my disciplines - poetry, music, visual arts - into a single work, maybe a feature film length stop motion animation musical. But that would require years of full-time work. Oh, for a lifetime sponsor or benefactor! Or an unlikely smash hit.
