A female-fronted Swiss band with an affinity for grunge, psych, and garage pop in equal measures, Annie Taylor rose at the end of the 2010s, garnering international attention for a smattering of early singles as well as their debut EP, Not Yours! The group's first full-length, Sweet Mortality, arrived in 2020. Consisting of singer/guitarist Gini Jungi, bassist Michael Mutter, guitarist Tobias Arn, and drummer Jan Winkler, the band came together in 2017, naming themselves after the enterprising American Annie Taylor, the first woman to go over Niagara Falls in a barrel and survive. With just a handful of singles under the belt (including "Partner in Crime" and "Wasted Youth"), the group made their first tour of Europe, playing around Italy, France, and Switzerland. Earning comparisons to bands like Warpaint and Hole, Annie Taylor's 2019 EP Not Yours! helped them net a deal with hometown label Taxi Gauche Records, which also put out their debut full-length, Sweet Mortality, in September of the following year. ~ Timothy Monger
