Asinhell is a retro death metal power trio founded by Volbeat guitarist and lead vocalist Michael Poulsen, with drummer Morten Toft Hansen from Danish group Raunchy and former Morgoth frontman Marc Grewe as their singer. The group's deliberately old-school approach pays conscious tribute to the bands Poulsen loved as a teen, including Death, Bolt Thrower, Entombed, Autopsy, Grave, and Darkthrone. Poulsen writes in grooves as well as hooks without diluting his trio's pummeling approach. After establishing the group through a series of phone calls between Poulsen, Grewe, and Hansen in March 2022 and recording rehearsal demos, they formally entered a studio months later with producer/session bassist Jacob Hansen. The band signed a multi-album deal with Metal Blade and released Impii Hora, their debut long-player, in September 2023.
