Biografia wykonawcy
As an actor, pop singer, and children’s performer, Carike Keuzenkamp has been delighting generations of South Africans for over half a century. Born Elizabeth Maria Magdalena van Zyl in The Netherlands in 1947, she moved to South Africa as a child, before adopting a portmanteau of her parents’ names, Carel and Rik, as her professional moniker. Keuzenkamp first turned heads in 1967 by performing an acoustic version of “Timothy”—an international hit for fellow South African artists Four Jacks and a Jill—in a then-scandalous nightgown for the film Die Professor En Die Prikkelpop. But from that risque introduction, Keuzenkamp pivoted to a more wholesome image, contributing ABBA-esque confections like “Hoeka Toeka” and “Die Byeboerwa” to the ‘70s Afrikaans-pop canon. At the same time, her hit Afrikaans rendition of the kiddie classic “Heidi” helped spur a long parallel career producing children’s music.
