Hailing from Greeley, Colorado, American black metal band Cobalt came together over a shared infatuation with hostile sounds. This was evident on 2003's Hammerfight EP and, later, 2005's descriptively named War Metal album, but it wasn't until 2007's Eater of Birds LP that Cobalt started distinguishing themselves both musically and with literary influences ranging from Nietzsche to Hunter S. Thompson. The band's third long-player, 2009's Gin, was their commercial breakthrough and went on to earn numerous Album of the Year nominations from respected heavy metal publications. However, following some significant lineup changes, their fourth studio long-player, 2016's Slow Forever, proved to be their last.
