Vihuelas, strummed, plucked by finger or pick, costituted a staple of Spainish music for the middle of the sixteenth century. Daza wrote a great deal of music for the vihuela and was a composer who helped to clarify the difficult intablature. Modal (tonoes) indications as well as tenor indications were included in his music. (The tenor was sung by the player.) "El Parnaso" was the legacy of Daza and it includes three books for the vihuela including fantasias, to develop hand coordination and strength, motet intabulations and secular intabulations. Most of the music contained in these works was by other composers and arranged by Daza. ~ Keith Johnson
