Grammy-winning Australian pop-rocker Rick Springfield parlayed his ’80s success into a lengthy recording and acting career complete with four Platinum albums and numerous starring roles.
∙ After it was a hit for his previous band, Zoot, he released an updated solo version of “Speak to the Sky” in 1972, which became his first of nine Top 20 singles on the Billboard Hot 100.
∙ The 1981 breakout album Working Class Dog included his signature song, the Grammy-winning “Jessie’s Girl,” whose long climb to No. 1 was helped by the debut of MTV.
