Best known for the quirky holiday hit “Christmas Wrapping,” The Waitresses helped shape the early-’80s new wave scene with their adventurous guitar-bass-keyboard-sax interplay.
∙ Their 1980 club single “I Know What Boys Like” became a Billboard Hot 100 hit after they rerecorded it for their 1982 debut LP, Wasn’t Tomorrow Wonderful?.
∙ “Christmas Wrapping” first appeared on the 1981 compilation A Christmas Record and was later included on the band’s 1982 EP, I Could Rule the World If I Could Only Get the Parts.
∙ The Waitresses wrote the theme song for the 1982 Sarah Jessica Parker sitcom Square Pegs, and they appeared during a school dance scene in the show’s premiere episode.
∙ Bruiseology, their 1983 sophomore LP, was coproduced by Grammy-winning producer Hugh Padgham (The Police, Phil Collins).
∙ During the 2020 holiday season, “Christmas Wrapping” was a Top 5 hit on the Billboard Alternative Digital Song Sales singles chart.
