In the artist’s words:
Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. I remember listening to Finnish radio with my grandparents in the 1970s and a song called Valoa ikkunassa by Laila Kinnunen just captured my imagination. I was just a child but I think that my passion for vintage music started from that very moment.
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Buena Vista Social Club, Buena Vista Social Club Taraf de Haïdouks, Band of Gypsies Värttinä, Seleniko I love folk music and Värttinä are one of the greatest Finnish folk bands ever. Taraf de Haidouks I saw at Kaustinen Folk Music Festival and their raw energy really touched me. Buena Vista Social Club is both beautiful music but also a great story.
Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Lyydia” This is a personal song I wrote as a tribute to my grandmother. It's a story of her life but it's relatable to many others: boy meets girl in a midsummer dance, and then life happens. The song is also rooted deep in the Finnish folk music tradition.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? I've always believed in the power of crossover, and one such amazing collaboration was in 2022, when we played a concert with Württembergische Philharmonie orchestra. It was very touching to see that our music works also with a symphony orchestra.
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I would mainly just want to continue playing to live audiences - no matter how big or small - the main thing is continuing to experience how my music connects with the people. And, it would certainly be nice to win a Grammy!
