Courbevoie-born singer Michel Delpech started his journey by going against the grain in the early '60s when he released a classic bit of chanson, “Chez Laurette,” amid the yé-yé boom that had just liberated French pop from its old-fashioned origins. His sentimental yet good-humored voice saw him through, and by the end of the decade he had found widespread favor by introducing a winking flirtatiousness to his work.
