Gers Pardoel appears chameleonic on surface level, adapting to every rap trend from ‘00s gangsta to cloud rap, but this polyglot approach marks him out as one of Nederhop’s seminal leaders. His delightfully languid track “Ik Neem Je Mee” is an apt symbol of his universal appeal, being as it is the most successful Dutch language hit in the Dutch Top 40 history. Elsewhere, “Als Jij Langsloopt”, with its agitated guitar and sentimental synths, is rap-populist euphoria, and “Verdwalen”, with synth harps and bouncy 808s, pleasantly rides the dancehall wave.
