Bringing together a consortium of independent thinkers, C.S.I. (Consorzio Suonatori Indipendenti) launched some of the most fascinating Italian alt-rock explorations of the ’90s. Comprising members of pro-Soviet punk-rockers CCCP Fedeli Alla Linea, C.S.I. tellingly referenced the Commonwealth of Independent States as they set off for adventurous new art-rock lands on iconic albums such as Linea gotica (1996), which was inspired by events of the Second World War. Later incarnations of the band carried C.S.I.’s sound into the new century, but their eloquent, creatively daring commentary on the world around them remains timeless.
